Walk-in Fume Cupboards

Ventilated Enclosures For Large Equipment & Processes

TION's walk-in fume cupboards safely house heavy equipment and materials that cannot be contained inside a regular fume cupboard. Helping to shield your laboratory technicians and protect sensitive processes.

Prioritising Accessibility & Efficiency

Walk-in fume cupboards or ventilated enclosures are designed to house heavy equipment like bioreactors and drum mixers. It supports access to the workspace at high and low levels, allowing your staff to position their testing apparatus without the risk of injury. At TION, We manufacture both ducted and ductless models using 100% medical-grade welded polypropylene.

This makes our products corrosion-proof and extends their life span by up to ten years compared with mild steel. 90% of the fume cabinets we supply feature bespoke design elements to them. However, we also offer standard "off-the-shelf" models for basic applications.

Product Features

Energy Efficient LED Lighting

Sealed LED lighting offers eco-friendly, cost-effective 800 LUX illumination.

Lighting

Lighting is of critical importance when it comes to walk-in cabinets, as you need to ensure safe practice. The most suitable choice of lighting is LED. It lasts longer than older fluorescent types and saves energy.

  • LED 800LUX fitted as standard
  • Yellow filtered light for UV reactive solutions/materials
  • ATEX rated version

Taps

Any quantity and location of taps (gas, water, vacuum, nitrogen etc.)

Power Sockets

Any quantity and location, including specific types (high current etc.)

Sinks

Can be set into the side of the unit to provide drainage points

Lining Materials

We offer different lining materials including polypropylene, stainless steel, PPS, and TRESPA.

Lining Material Types

The most frequently used material when constructing fume cabinets is polypropylene. However, we do offer alternatives for walk-in cupboards, as we know the material will depend on the application.

Lining materials

  • Polypropylene – ideal for most applications
  • Stainless Steel – for radioactive materials
  • PPS – most of the benefits of polypropylene but with UL94 V-0 fire retardant properties and a higher heat resistance
  • Trespa® Toplab Plus™ – only if requested, not recommended

Sash Design

Large front opening for easy access. With a variety of bespoke options available.

Worksurfaces

The large front opening grants easy access to mobile benches and trolleys. The metal-free construction* also ensures zero corrosion. This makes the cabinets ideal for applications** involving corrosive substances. A variety of linings are available.

Options available:

  • Full height toughened glass sliding vertically
  • Full height toughened glass sliding vertically with horizontal access panes
  • Full height polycarbonate sliding
  • Full height polycarbonate sliding vertically with horizontal access panes

*metal option available if required **Except radioactive materials – we would use a Stainless Steel lining for that application – or high heat applications when we would use metal.

Totally Customisable

We can design our walk-in fume hoods to ANY specification you need with no additional costs.

Sizing

Numerous options are available as follows:

  • CAV (Constant Air Volume) or VAV (Variable Air Volume)

Filters (for ductless models)

  • Activated Carbon blended for Acids, Bases, Solvents or combinations
  • HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air)
  • ULPA (Ultra Low Particulate Air)
  • Pre-filters

Shelves

  • Fixed or removable
  • Perforated or solid

Intuitive User Interface

All controls in one place with our user-friendly interface with intuitive calibration and night setback mode.

9" Digital Control Panel

Our control panel software features a unique red-light alarm system. This can be programmed to track air inflow and downflow, annual testing dates, UV light timers, and filter replacements. Contact our team for a free product demonstration today.

Polypropylene Construction

We manufacture our fume cupboards using 100% virgin medical-grade welded polypropylene.

Polypropylene Carcass

We often get asked about the practicality of manufacturing our fume cupboards from polypropylene, but the answer is surprisingly straightforward. The material is simple to maintain and clean. It's also mechanically rugged and features a high chemical resistance when compared with other metals and plastics.

Five Things to Consider When Choosing Fume Cupboards
Five Things to Consider Before Purchasing a Ducted Fume Cupboard
Fume Cupboard Service Package
What Is A Walk-In Fume Cupboard?
A walk-in fume cupboard (sometimes called a ventilated enclosure) is designed for processes that require large pieces of equipment and access at high and low levels. For example, bioreactors or large drum mixers.
How Does A Walk-In Fume Cupboard Work?
TION's walk-in fume cupboards are available in two models. Ducted or ductless (recirculating). A ducted walk-in fume cupboard uses PVC ducting connected to a roof-mounted ventilation stack to exhaust unwanted fumes. A ductless walk-in fume cupboard filters air through a series of built-in carbon or HEPA filters (sometimes a combination of both) and recirculates air back into the room.
How Big Is A Walk In Fume Cupboard?
TION’s walk-in fume cupboards are available in five separate sizes. These range from 1200 mm to 2500 mm wide. However, we also can design bespoke walk-in fume cupboards with custom-size options and accessories to fit any lab space.
Is A Walk-In Fume Cupboard Suitable For Any Type Of Acid Or Substance?
No. Although walk-in fume cupboards are designed for use with a variety of different chemical types, there are some exceptions. For example, just as in a regular ducted fume cupboard, Perchloric acid vapours can crystallise inside the unit or duct when dry. In this example, we would only recommend a wash-down fume cupboard.
How Long Does It Take To Install A Walk-In Fume Cupboard?
A ductless walk-in fume cupboard takes between two and four hours to install. However, a ducted walk-in fume cupboard can take between three and seven days (or longer) to install, depending on the complexity of your project. Here, we need to consider your ventilation requirements, building specifications and make-up air. However, you can expedite this process if you have a thorough specification brief detailing your needs.
How Much Does A Walk-In Fume Cupboard Cost?
A walk-in fume cupboard will cost around £10,000 to £20,000, depending on the complexity and size of the unit. Unlike traditional mild steel fume hoods, we manufacture our products using corrosion-proof medical-grade welded polypropylene. This material extends the average lifespan of a walk-in fume cupboard by up to 10 years.
