TION's ductless fume cupboards are becoming increasingly popular due to the lack of restrictions or detailed planning necessary for install. They can be set up in laboratories that require a mobile solution, such as older buildings or facilities that are more difficult to access.
With no need for any ducting, this range of fume cupboards still provide operator protection with filters specified for each application. Filters can be carbon or HEPA (particulate) based, or even a combination of both if required. This safely recirculated clean air means that the ductless system is more environmentally friendly, which is why recirculating cupboards are becoming more and more prevalent in laboratories due to the environmental impact of exhausting fumes to the atmosphere.
Our specialist team are highly trained and experienced when it comes to designing, manufacturing and installing recirculating fume cabinets, as well as being able to offer the best advice on all of our filtration system solutions for any application.
Lighting in fume hoods is very important to ensure safe practice and the obvious choice is LED, as it offers a very long life with excellent clarity. Older types such as fluorescent tubes can prove troublesome.
The ideal material for the construction of fume cupboards is polypropylene. Not just any polypropylene, but virgin medical grade welded polypropylene, as this offers much higher chemical resistance than other materials used in traditional fume cupboards. We can, of course, offer the traditional style ductless cupboards if required, but we would always recommend the significantly better polypropylene version (learn more about the advantages of polypropylene v traditional materials).
We use two main types of control panel for our recirculating fume hoods:
1. Our standard touch panel which allows the lights, fan speed, sockets to be adjusted. This versatile unit is straightforward which allows users to get up and running with very little or no training. If we use this control panel a separate low airflow alarm is fitted for safety and to comply with the European certification requirements.
2. VAV 7” Touch Screen. This touchscreen control panel controls everything from the set point of the face velocity to the calibration of the alarm. The control panel will also display the current face velocity at all times. This unit allows the user to be in total control of the cupboard settings. If a solvent alarm is fitted to the unit the set point and alarm is also integrated into this control panel. When this unit is fitted, the cupboard also has Variable Air Volume which means that a set face velocity can be set and the fan will speed increase or decrease as the sash is opened and closed to keep the air velocity constant. This ensures safety and compliance while increasing the efficiency and longevity of the cupboard.
There are many different work surfaces that can be specified on our fume cupboards.
…and more
Almost any size of internal heights, widths and depths are able to be built. Whether you are looking to unitise as much space as possible in your existing lab, or designing your lab from scratch, TION can build something to maximise workspace and efficiency, whilst maintaining compliance and safety. We’ve built cupboards from 600mm wide to 4000mm wide, so we understand the varied requirements you may have!
There are many safety features that can be built into the design of our ductless cupboards. These include low air flow alarms (both visual and audio), VAV (Variable air volume) systems to ensure constant face velocity and other systems such as fire suppression and fire collars can be installed to maintain a safe working environment.
